packing for Italy & restlessness.

the butterflies in my tummy are starting! I think it's a mix of excitement and the 3 cups of coffee I've allowed myself to have today.
My best friend and I are the only two going, so we decided it would be a good idea if we packed in carry-ons. This is so we wont lose bags/have to check in and wait in lines. Now, for an average girl, it would be hard to pack for 8 days in Italy. But for me? IMPOSSIBLE. but I proved myself wrong! I actually managed to do it! ( with the help of vacuum bags. )

Here are a few photos of the makeup I'm taking and the other is for my "entertainment" carry-on.

Not bad if I do say so myself...

packing playlist:
The Penalty- Beirut
Postcards From Italy- Beirut
Fly Me To The Moon- Frank Sinatra
Sé Lest- Sigur Ros
tons of Yann Tierson
If Only I Had A Way- Timmy Curran

Alma, 15, Sweden

Name: Alma Magdalena
Age: 15
Country: Sweden

What Inspires you the most?: Magazines, blogs, even people in the street.
What is going to be your next purchase: A pattern chiffon dress with small flowers, hopefully if I ever find one!
What are you looking forward to most in Spring?: The warmth and not freezing my ass of in tights!
What is one style you see coming back soon?: to show a bit of your belly in short tops and high-waisted shorts/skirts/pants. It makes me think of the Spice Girls :)

You check check out Alma's amazing style at her own blog here.

school lock-ins

Everything is jcrew
glasses, secondhand

Tonight is my first school lock-in! Considering I go to a boarding school, it can't be that much different... minus we are forced to stay up and run around our gym with everyone, which is basically what we do in our separate dorms anyway. Should be interesting.

Another thing is I want to remind everyone to vote on my poll for what you want to see when I get back, and that other thing I'm not supposed to mention legally (coughgooglecough). Lets just say...feel free to check out every aspect of this blog.

Oh, did I mention I love scarves? yeah. I do.

1st place in Stylemob.com contest

I recently won the "What You Would Like to See In 2008"
they wrote a lovely little quip, so sweet.

"Congrats to our "What Fashion Needs in 2008" contest winners! StyleMob member Caroline's entry, 2008 needs girls who aren't 00 in magazines takes the cake with the right blend of edgy, sexy and cool. She'll receive Brooklyn Design's handmade quartz and turquoise necklace."

Thanks to everyone that voted!

thrifting in the middle of nowhere.

Modern Nature

Messenger bag-head shop in Firenze, Italia

Something about embellished bags with lots of detail just make me giddy.

Uniforms that aren't so uniform.

So, I've been working on this for a few days, and I've decided there are enough to post.
I wanted to do a post showing that you can make your uniform interesting and little details go a long way in setting you out from the rest.
I've seen some amazing prints and patterns, but not all were caught on camera. (I may do another post on this later if this goes over well.)
There are a few school rules you should understand before judging these outfits-
No jewelary.
No crazy hair...
Shirts must be tucked in.
No sandals or flip flops. ( but its freezing out)

pretty basic if you ask me...so these few I found had fun color mixes, (never thought of red tights with light blue flats! how cute.) ethnic scarves all over, due to many just got back from italy... and even a boy in a navy trench.
also, keep in mind we are a small boarding school...consisting of about 150 and many are small town kids.
Enjoy!

the new raybans?!? oh no. first trend spot.

We may have a problem on our hands.
I saw a photo of Mary-Kate Olsen wearing these glasses, but I never considered they would catch on because they are THAT bad.

I realize that they are iconic. (thanks to our dear friend John Lennon) Almost 40 years ago, he wore gold little circle glasses that have gone on a bidding war for millions of dollars recently.

but the madness doesnt stop there. I bought the most recent Elle magazine (not usually a fan, but I was impressed with what I saw.)
This photo (among other GORGEOUS photos in this spread) shows the model wearing this new trend.

so are you going to go run out to your local vintage shop or wait it out?
let me remind everyone who is reading this that you can comment on this post...even if you want to be annonymous or you dont have a blog name.

but I'm not completly deserting you, I'm working on a post, but I have to take all the photos first.
Keep checking back, and leave me love so I know you are all watching.

The ultimate hand-me-down?
Grandma's mink shrug.

Saturday, January 12

My dearest Alber,

Between the perfect corals and billowing fabrics, you once again amaze me.

How do you do it?

Now readers, there is something you need to understand before you read any further.
I've done my best to make it very clear that I REFUSE to be another "blog".
I will give my opinion, not matter what Anna Wintour or her posse says.
For instance, when someone asks me "What was your favorite collection??!?$!$@!"
you will never hear the words "Marc Jacobs" come out of my mouth.
Why?
I think he's an idiot half the time.

so if you are looking for honest opinions
and you are sick of clones answering that generic question with a simple "Marc Jacobs" or "Anna Sui" because thats what they heard on The Style Network
then I am pleased to announce that you won't find that here.

In honor of tonight...

Hope I brought a smile to all you pretty little teenvoguers.

Think you have what it takes?

I honestly never thought I would become a fashion blogger, but in all honesty, I was sick of seeing the same thing over and over.
I guess this won't be a typical "fashion blog" for long, though.
I will be starting fashion school in the fall, and I hope to take all of my readers into the experience with me.
I will be getting my degree in Fashion Merchandizing and becoming a buyer. Most people have been skeptical.
All the more reason I should go for it.

Coming up:
Italy: January 27-February 4
Belize: February 22-March 2

and plenty of style hunting, photography, and fun outfits on the way!

To start off on good measures, I should probably introduce myself with a picture.

Maybe I'll save that for another day...
